Votes from 1900 New Polling Stations to be Re-Counted: IECC

KABUL - The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) says votes from 1900 new polling stations in 25 provinces will be re-counted and audited following registration of a large number of objections.
IECC deputy head  Zarmina Haqjo told Pajhwok Afghan News a large number of complaints had been registered with them against the 1900 polling stations. “These are new polling stations and their votes have not been counted by the election commission,” she said.
She said the IECC had completed its investigation in most of provinces. She said most of the complaints had been registered in Kabul, Nangarhar and Helmand provinces and their assessment and investigation was underway and expected to be completed until Sunday.
However, she said it was not known when the audit of the new 1900 polling stations would be accomplished.
“So far we have completed our assessment in 12 provinces and results from these provinces are ready to be announced. We are about to decide about the results of another five provinces. It has been decided to announce results from Zabul, Panjsher, Uruzgan and Sari Pul provinces. We have also registered 36 appellant  complaints.”
Haqjo said the province-wide assessment would be completed until Sunday but all reaching out to all complaints from some provinces would take time.
The presidential election was held on Sept 28 last year. Presidential candidate and incumbent president Ashraf Ghani has won the election by securing high number of votes in the preliminary results. (Pajhwok)
