Mohib Wants Taliban to Declare Ceasefire

KABUL - National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib, thanking those who made the ultimate sacrifice to stabilise Afghanistan, says 2019 was a year of growth and success.
In a series of tweets, the NSA said: “2019 was … also an opportunity and challenges for Afghanistan. We celebrated 100 years of our independence, stood for our republic, held successful presidential elections and advanced relations with the world.”
“We reformed our security institutions by installing dedicated leadership, focusing on improving coordination. As a result, our brave ANDSF recaptured eight districts from the enemy,” he wrote.
He maintained Nangarhar province had been purged of Daesh militants and the group’s ability to terrorise elsewhere undermined, he continued.
He added they continued to facilitate a national peace dialogue, with the people at the center of the discourse, because their top priority remained a dignified, just and sustainable peace.
Lasting peace was what the Afghans deserved and demanded, the top security official wrote, hoping the goal would be achieved.
A ceasefire by Taliban, genuine efforts from neighbours and partners would build trust and help the Peace process, Mohib said, adding the Afghans needed more than just a reduction in violence.
“We put dialogue above all, but our forces stand stronger than ever before to protect our people and the republic. We are proud of our heroes in uniform who have shown great valor in the face of terror,” he concluded. (Pajhwok)
