Work on 2nd Phase of Kajaki Dam Gets Under Way

LASHKARGAH - Work on the second phase of the Kajaki dam was launched in southern Helmand province on Sunday.
The second phase of the project got under way following a ceremony attended by Governor Mohammad Yaseen Khan and other officials.
With the completion of the second phase, the dam’s power-generating capacity would increase from 52 to 102MWs, the governor said.
Electricity from the dam would be supplied to neighbouring Uruzgan and Kandahar provinces, as well as Helmand, he added.
According to him, the project is being executed and financed by a Turkish company.
Kandahar Governor Hayatullah Hayat hoped thousands of homes would be electrified with the completion of the second phase.
Amanullah Farooqi, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat head for the south, said they had conducted a survey for 220MW power cables.
“Power cables would be extended to many areas before the completion of the second phase of Kajaki dam,” he promised. (Pajhwok)
