KABUL - The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday said the presidential election’s initial results would be announced today if no technical challenge occured.
IEC commissioner Mohammad Hanif Danishyar told media persons here that if the IEC secretariat shared its report with the IEC board, then they would take a decision.
He said if they received the report, after its study and in case of technical challenges, the presidential election result would be declared tonight.
Habib Rahman Nang, IEC secretary, said result forms of the seven provinces had been completed and work on preliminary result was underway.
He said the IEC secretariat report will be shared within few hours with the IEC board, saying after that, the IEC board will make their decision.
He termed the election process as transparent and assured the results would be announced soon.
But Mohammad Younis Nawandish, a member of the Stability and Partnership electoral team, told media persons at the IEC hall that the vote recount and audit process in 27 provinces had been completed without their and some electoral teams’ observers’ presence and should be conducted again.
The IEC has audited and recounted votes of a number of polling stations belonged to 27 out of total 34 provinces of the country. However, a number of presidential tickets including Stability and Partnership led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah boycotted the process. (Pajhwok)
