Sherpao Stresses Resumption of Taliban-US Talks

PESHAWAR - A senior Pakhtun Pakistani politician has welcomed the release of two Western hostages by Afghan Taliban.
Last week, the insurgents set free the two professors of the American University of Afghanistan they had kidnapped in Kabul in 2016.
In return, the Ashraf Ghani administration released three senior Haqqani Network commanders in return for the kidnapped professors.
Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, speaking to party workers in Landikotal, hailed the prisoner swap as a positive development in the Afghan peace process.
However, the QWP leader voiced his reservations about the delay in announcing the results of the presidential election in Afghanistan.
Sherpao called for the earliest possible resumption of the stalled talks between the Taliban and the US to facilitate the restoration of peace to Afghanistan.
“The violence has taken its toll on the ordinary Afghans, who have been killed and maimed in large numbers over the past four decades,” he said. (Pajhwok)
