Afghanistan Gets Back Smuggled Buddha Statue

KABUL - The Ministry of Culture and Information (MoCI) has received a smuggled Buddha statue from Hong Kong.
The Buddha statue, dating back to the third century, was handed over to Mohammad Rassoul Bawari, the deputy minister of information by Gabriel Shine -- Afghanistan’s friend.
In a statement, Bawari said the ministry was committed to bringing back all smuggled antiques, including statues, to Afghanistan.
Shine said he had received the stature a few years ago but he did not have the opportunity to return it to Afghanistan earlier.
The statue had been registered with UNESCO with a picture in the catalogue of National Museum. (Pajhwok)
