Windies Clinch ODI Series Against Afghanistan

KABUL - West Indies have beaten Afghanistan in the second One-Day International, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Afghanistan are currently hosting the Caribbeans for a three-match ODI series in the Indian city Lucknow.
In Saturday’s encounter, West Indies won the toss and decided to bat. The visitors posted a total of 247 in the stipulated 50 overs.
In response, Afghanistan were bowled out for 200, as Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase and Hayden Walsh captured three wickets apiece.
Despite a 53-run second wicket partnership between Rahmat Shah and Hazratullah Zazai, Afghanistan's run rate fell dramatically as Chase rocked the Afghan middle order.
Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran did put up strong resistance. Together they forged a 68 runs stand for the sixth wicket.
Zadran chipped in with 56 but after his exit, the hosts badly failed to show any spine. Sharafuddin Ashraf was the last wicket to fall, with West Indies romping home in the 46th over.
Earlier, the visitors took a flying start with a 98-run opening stand between Shai Hope and Evin Lewis.
Like the opposition, their middle order collapsed, slumping to 182 for six in the 10th over. But Nicholas Pooran’s 67 lent the Caribbean innings some stability. West Indies managed to reach 247 runs.
For Afghanistan, Nawinul Haq, Mujib Zadran, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Javid Ahmadi took one wicket each.
The visitors had won the first ODI on Wednesday by seven wickets. Saturday’s triumph saw them clinch the three-match series.
The third ODI is slated for November 11. (Pajhwok)
