Ex-Afghan Skipper Joins Indian Football Club

KABUL - India’s Gokulam Kerala Club has signed Zohib Islam Amiri, former captain of the Afghan football team.
Amiri will represent the club in the upcoming I-League season -- a major football league in India.
Indian media outlets reported on Sunday the defensive midfielder had inked a one-year contract with Gokulam Kerala.
Amiri has already represented several Indian clubs, including Dempo SC, DSK Shivajians, Mohun Bagan and Chennai City. He has also played for Indian Super League club, FC Goa.
VC Praveen, president of Gokulam Kerala FC, hailed Amiri as a versatile footballer and an added value to the team for the I-League.
Capable of playing in several positions, the Afghan has a vast experience playing in India.
Amiri was quoted as saying "I am glad to join Gokulam Kerala FC. The team has already achieved a lot in the pre-season by winning Durand Cup and reaching the semifinal of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup…”
The 29-year-old has 48 international caps, the most by any Afghan player, and has 6 goals to his credit despite being a defender.
He captained the Afghan squad to glory in the 2013 SAFF Championships, in which his side defeated India 2-0 in the finals. (Pajhwok)
