Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister  Salahuddin Rabbani of Afghanistan

KABUL - State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani of Afghanistan on the sidelines of the third China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue in Islamabad.
Wang Yi said, as traditional friendly neighboring countries and strategic cooperative partners, China and Afghanistan have always supported, understood and trusted each other. The Chinese side appreciates Afghanistan's firm support on issues concerning the Chinese side's core interests and thanks the Afghan government for taking effective measures to fight against the terrorist force of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement in Afghanistan. The Chinese side supports the national unity government of Afghanistan in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and dignity. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Afghan side, well implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative, advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and will continue to provide assistance within its capacity for Afghanistan's economic and social development and improvement of people's livelihood.
Wang Yi pointed out, the current situation in Afghanistan is rapidly evolving, facing both historic peace opportunities and complex risks and challenges. The Chinese side will continue to fully respect Afghanistan's sovereignty and independence as well as the will of the Afghan people, and firmly support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
Salahuddin Rabbani expressed his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. China has always been a good friend and a good partner of Afghanistan. The Afghan side thanks the Chinese side for its long-term and strong support for Afghanistan in various fields including peace, development and stability, and appreciates the Chinese side's unremitting efforts and important role in advancing reconciliation and peace in Afghanistan and safeguarding peace and stability in the region. Speaking highly of the Chinese side's efforts to push forward the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, the Afghan side is willing to constantly increase mutual political trust among the three sides under this mechanism and deepen practical cooperation and counter-terrorism cooperation.
