BEIJING - China supports the development path, chosen by the Afghan people and backs comprehensive economic reconstruction there, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei at a press conference on Wednesday. Responding to a question on Regional Conference being held by Turkey in Istanbul to ensure peace, development and security in Afghanistan and region, he said Chinese delegation is being led by its Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin. "We hope that the international community can respect the choice of the Afghan people and create favorable conditions for country's reconciliation (efforts)," he said.

He expressed the hope that the international community will honor its pledges, made for providing assistance to Afghanistan.

China, he said, is ready to work with world community to strengthen the sovereignty, autonomy and development capacity of Afghanistan.

This will help promote for early governance of Afghanistan by its own people, he noted. (Monitoring Desk)
