Wolesi Jirga Admin Polls:  No Contestant Grabs 50+1 Votes
KABUL - The Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament on Monday again held elections on nine administrative positions, including secretary, first and second deputy speaker, but none was able to secure the required number of votes. Three lawmakers ran for the first deputy speakership, two for the second deputy speakership, two for secretary seat and four persons for deputy secretary slot but nobody was able to get 50 plus one votes to secure the posts. Ghulam Hussain Naseri and Humayon Shaheedzada contested the second deputy speaker election, Najibullah Naseri and Mohammad Alam Sae contested the first deputy speaker election. Naseri got 109 votes and Sae secured 86 votes, both falling below the threshold. There would be fresh polls among new candidates for the first deputy speaker position on Tuesday. For the deputy speaker position, Naseri grabbed 98 while Shaheedzada got 113 votes, none getting the required votes and fresh polls on the post between fresh faces would be held on Tuesday. For deputy secretary position, Erfanullah Erfan and Farida Hamidi were candidates. Erfan got 103 votes while Hamidi grabbed 80 votes. Speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani asked other lawmakers to submit their documents if they were interested to contest the polls. (Pajhwok)
