New Force to Curb Illegal Constructions in Kabul

KABUL - The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has formed a new force to deal with land grabbing, illegal buildings and constructions in capital Kabul, an official said on Sunday.
The new force named “Urban Order Unit” would act in close coordination with the Kabul City Municipality to thwart land grabbing and illegal constructions.
Acting Interior Minister Masoud Andarabi and Kabul Mayor Ahmad Zaki Sarfaraz signed an agreement in this regard to begin work on the project.
Andarabi said no other authority would be allowed to interfere in the newly established unit’s affairs.
He said whenever the Municipality faced powerful individuals, the newly formed Urban Order Unit would rush to their help.
Mayor Safaraz said implementation of urban planning had become difficult due to the existing challenges.
“Many illegal buildings are being constructed during nights and holidays and with this force the illegal constructions could be prevented,” he said.
The construction of more buildings resulted in environmental hazards and made the underground water unhealthy, the mayor said.
He hoped with formation of the new force, the issue of illegal constructions would be prevented.
Saleem, a resident of Khawaja Bugra triangle, said construction of tall buildings not only further plummeted underground water but also created more troubles for people living in one or two storey homes. (Pajhwok)
