MoUs on Railroad, Investment Inked with Turkmenistan

HERAT - Afghanistan and Turkmenistan on Sunday signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to expanding rail network, increasing import of energy and attracting investment.
Finance Minister Mohammad Humayon Qayyoumi and Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow inked the MoUs in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province.
The MoUs are aimed at attracting investment for the Torghondai-Heart and Aqena-Andkhoi rail networks and increasing 110 megawatts of electricity import from Turkmenistan to Farah province via Herat’s Shindand district, said Acting Finance Minister Qayyoumi.
He termed the signing of agreement important for relations between the two countries and hoped rail networks would be expanded between the two countries in the future.
He also termed the opening of Lapis Lazuli Corridor vital for the economic survival of the two countries and said Afghanistan was planning to purchase security forces uniform on the base of barter agreement.
He said the transfer of 500 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan also came up for discussion.
He added work on TAPI gas pipeline by Turkmenistan would be launched in Afghanistan this year.
Herat Governor Abdul Qayoum Rahimi said TAPI project included surveys, acquisition of land,  security and some legal issues. He informed work on the project would be launched this year. (Pajhwok)
