PUL-I-ALAM - Ten schools which had been closed by local residents in Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province have been reopened, an official said on Sunday.
One week ago, residents of Dahno area of the district closed the 10 schools following claims that local uprising members had set up posts in the schools and harass locals.
They had said the schools would remain closed until the pro-government militiamen remove their check-posts.
But Mohammad Shapoor Arab, spokesman for the provincial Education Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the girls and boys schools were reopened after mediation and talks with the local residents.
Fazel Ahmad, a tribal elder of Dahno area, said the schools were reopened but their demand was no met as the check-posts remained.
A commission from tribal elders and religious scholars would be set up in order to resolve the issue of check-posts.
Shamshad Laraway, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok the check-posts had been established for security of people.
“With the presence of check-posts, the Taliban could not operate, so they (Taliban) are pressuring people to call for removal of the posts,” he explained.
But he said the governor’s house would share the issue in security meeting. Around 12,000 students had been deprived of study as a result of the closure of schools. (Pajhwok)
