Respond to People’s Demand for Peace, Ghani Again Asks Taliban

KABUL - In a video message in connection with the holy month of Ramadan, President Ashraf Ghani has once again called on the Taliban to give a positive response to the people’s demand for peace.
“The holy month of Ramadan is the time of peace and reconciliation, I once again urge the Taliban to respect this month and accept the Afghanistan’s people demand for peace and reconciliation as clearly reflected in the decisions of the Consultative Loya Jirga.”
The president said he welcomed every effort and measure being taken toward peace and he would not like the blood of any Afghan to be shed.
While inviting the Taliban to peace, Ghani also directed the security and defense forces to increase their efforts for protection and security of people so they could perform worship in the holy month without fear.
The president had offered the Taliban a ceasefire during the month of Ramadan on the closing day of the Loya Jirga on Friday, but the rebels rejected his offer. (Pajhwok)
