US Ensure NATO Efforts Would Make Afghanistan Safe from Posing Threats

KABUL - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the United States ensure the efforts made by NATO allies would not be wasted and insurgent groups could never pose any threats again from Afghanistan in the future.
Talking to a press conference after NATO foreign ministers meeting in Washington, Pompeo said the meeting also discussed terrorism and the alliance was playing a key role for fighting it on the global level.
“The U.S. especially appreciates NATO’s commitment to the NATO mission in Iraq. For nearly 18 years, NATO allies and partners have fought terrorism in Afghanistan. We’ve trained and advised and assisted the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces,” he said.
He said that he updated NATO counterparts on the work of Zalmai Khalilzad, the US special envoy for the Afghan peace process, and his diplomatic undertaking that he is executing at my direction.
“Our nations have inherited a strong alliance because our predecessors had the wisdom to continue to adapt to the challenges at hand. And now it’s our duty to adapt to the challenges like radical Islamic terrorism, cyber attacks, uncontrolled migration, Chinese strategic competition, and indeed, still, Russian aggression,” Pompeo added.
