India to Deliver 1,000 Buses Soon: Najafi

KABUL - India would soon deliver a thousand public transport buses to Afghanistan, the acting transport and aviation minister announced on Tuesday, amid public complaints about a shortage of vehicles in the capital Kabul.

Daud Ali Najafi told a gathering marking the national transit and transport day that India was expected to export the 1,000 buses to Afghanistan in the near future. The delivery would considerably boost the country's transport system, he hoped.

The buses would be provided to all 34 provinces, the minister said, adding they had promised India efforts would be made to bring improvement to Afghanistan's transport system.

Meanwhile, Kabul residents said they were facing problems due to a shortage of public transport vehicles in the capital city. An engineering student at the Kabul University, Javed, said he daily waited for half an hour to embark on a public transport vehicle.

A resident of the Wazir Akbar Khan diplomatic district, he said public transport vehicles charged five Afghanis, but due to a shortage of buses, he had to travel in other vehicles, charging 10 Afghanis.
