Turkish Defence Minister Meets Afghan President

KABUL - Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar travelled to the Afghan capital city of Kabul on Friday, where he and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani reportedly discussed a range of topics including the country’s peace process.
Afghanistan has faced 17 years of war since the United States and its allies launched a campaign to overthrow the country’s Islamic fundamentalist Taliban rulers in 2001.
This month, the United States, the new Afghan government and the Taliban held the second round of direct peace talks, raising hopes that a peace deal could be near.
Akar and Ghani discussed “issues around an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process” on Friday, Afghan news outlet Tolo quoted the Presidential Palace as saying.
They also reportedly discussed joint efforts against terrorist organisations.
Akar pledged to continue providing Turkish aid in the peace process and training of Afghan police officers. (ahvalnews)
