US Hails Pakistan’s Role in Fostering Afghan Peace Talks

KABUL - The United States on Saturday said it welcomed any actions by the Pakistani government to promote greater cooperation in South Asia, including fostering negotiations between the Taliban, Kabul and other Afghans.
“Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has met, and will continue to meet, all interested parties, including the Taliban, to support a negotiated settlement to the conflict in Afghanistan,” said a spokesman for the US embassy here.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan was facilitating talks between the United States and Afghan Taliban. The parleys would begin in Dubai on Monday, he confirmed.
America had recently asked him to facilitate peace negotiations with the Taliban, the prime minister said at a function in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Friday.
He said: “When I used to say there is no solution to this problem other than negotiations, I was branded as Taliban Khan, but they now ask us to help them in initiating talks with the Taliban.”  (Pajhwok)
