KABUL - US veterans are sending a thousand backpacks, containing toys and scholastic materials to kids in Afghanistan’s combat zone, reports WJLA, an ABC affiliate.
The idea was floated by a retired general and former CIA director, David Petraeus, who says: “I envisioned this being a kind of initiative where our soldiers … could go out into the villages.
“Where they and their Afghan counterparts were working to improve the quality of life for Afghan citizens and their children,” Petraeus adds. (Pajhwok)
