Tashkent Eyes Transit Trade  Pact with Kabul, Islamabad

KABUL -  - Uzbekistan has evinced a keen interest in reaching a trilateral agreement of transit trade with Afghanistan and Pakistan and to boost trade to higher levels.
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Furqat A Sidikov told businessmen community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) that his country had more than $500 million bilateral trade with Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan mainly exported utility metres, wheat, dried legumes and chocolate to Afghanistan, Sidikov said, adding Uzbekistan was interested in joint ventures with Pakistan in agricultural machinery, electronics, textiles and other fields.
He said Uzbekistan wanted to build a railway link with Pakistan through Afghanistan that would make Pakistan an international hub of business activities.
ICCI President Ahmed Hassan called for materialisation of Pakistan-Afghanistan-Uzbekistan Trilateral Transit Trade Agreement to remove trade barriers and bring huge benefits to all parties. (Pajhwok)
