OIC Chief Commends  Afghan GAovt Peace  Initiatives

KABUL - The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) chief has stressed the importance of Afghan government initiatives to promote peace, security and reconciliation in the country.
Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen noted President Ashraf Ghani’s peace efforts during a meeting at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah at the level of permanent representatives.
The meeting was to follow up on the implementation of OIC resolutions on Afghanistan and recommendations of the International Conference of Ulema on Peace and Security in Afghanistan.
In a statement, he said the OIC followed with interest efforts by Ghani, including his call for the Taliban to engage in direct and unconditional peace dialogue.
He hailed the government of Saudi Arabia for hosting the important conference that reflected the attention the Saudi leadership paid to the issues being faced by the Muslim Ummah.
Al-Othaimeen remarked the conference laid the foundations for reconciliation, stressing the need for everyone to engage in this political process. In this context, he urged member states to use their influence to bring all Afghan factions to the negotiating table. (Pajhwok)
