President Orders Kabul’s Division into 4 Security Zones

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has ordered Kabul’s division into four security zones, seeking details of a weapons distribution plan, his office said on Saturday.
He issued the orders at a meeting with elders and public figures from the western part of Kabul, which has lately witnessed deadly terrorist attacks and bombings, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
Twenty-six people were killed and 91 others wounded in Wednesday’s twin suicide attacks on a sports club in the Shiite-dominated neighborhood of Dasht-i-Barchi west of the capital.
During the meeting, Kabul garrison commander Murad Ali Murad said a proper security plan had been devised to maintain security during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Ghani said it should be clear that Afghanistan was facing a conspiracy and a long-term threat. A string of brutal attacks in Kabul had proved that, the president added.
He said joint committees involving security personnel and members of the general public would be formed on the basis of people’s suggestion. A clear monitoring mechanism will be set up at the leadership level.

In response to the suggestion about temporary distribution of arms to mosques and religious places, he directed the relevant authorities to explore ways of doing so and prevent public disturbance.  (Pajhwok)
