Ghani Stresses Induction of Modern Revenue System

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has urged equipping the custom department with modern security system in order to identify the interference of irrelevant persons in the affairs of custom, a statement from Presidential Palace said on Saturday.
The president expressed the view during a video meeting on collection of custom revenue. Heads of concerned institutions, including governors, police chiefs, intelligence heads, custom department heads, from Heart, Nangarhar, Balkh, Nimroz, Kandahar, Paktia, Paktika and Khost provinces took part.
Initially, Secretary Revenue Department NajibullahWardak briefed the participants of the meeting about the current state of revenue collection.
He said after the meeting with the president, heads of the custom and revenue departments worked on action plan in order to increase the revenue of the country.
The revenue department head termed the interference of powerful individuals, Provincial Council members, members of parliament, smugglers and local officials as huge challenges in the way of increasing the country’s revenue.
The president explained that custom departments should be furnished with advance security system in order to prevent the interference of irrelevant person and indicated their middling in the custom affairs.
He also stressed over the security of custom department officials.
He ordered the governors to create committees on revenue and call their meetings every week.
The president stressed over the elevation of revenue as it was an important matter for Afghanistan and international partners.  (Pajhwok)
