APCCI Hails Imran’s Vow to Boost Bilateral Trade

PESHAWAR - The Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (APJCCI) has welcomed prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan’s vow to enhance bilateral trade between the neighbouring countries.
APJCCI head ZiaulHaqSarhadi said mutual trade between the two countries, which declined from $5 billion to a few hundred million dollars, would see a boost under the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government.
In a statement, Sarhadi stressed the need for bringing about basic changes in the foreign and trade policies. The new government should consult the business community of both countries on framing effective policies.
He urged a review of the previous trade agreement and signing of a new accord. Sarhadi asked the new government to convene a high-level meeting to review the previous Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade to rectify shortcomings.
A bid portion of Pak-Afghan through Karachi and Port Qasim in Sindh and Gwadar in Balochistan had been shifted to Chabahar port in Iran due to flaws in the Pakistan Afghanistan Transit Trade and other issues, he noted.
He hoped the new government would take steps for addressing the problems and grievances of exporters and importers and frame policies in consultation with businessmen.  (Pajhwok)
