KABUL - The Mesharno Jirga on Sunday welcomed the government’s possible announcement of another ceasefire over EidulAdha, but in the same breath they warned the Taliban might misuse the offer.
The previous truce during last month’s Eid al-Fitr holiday saw unprecedented scenes of unarmed fighters and soldiers mingling on the streets of Kabul and other Afghan cities, taking selfies with soldiers and police.
Ghani’s main spokesman Haroon Chakansuri told a press conference in Kabul recently there was the possibility that a ceasefire mght be announced over Eid al-Qurban.
However, some Meshrano Jirga or Senate members on Sunday feared the Taliban might enter arms and other dangerous materials inside Kabul during the possible second truce.
Najeba Hussaini, a lawmaker from Daikundi province, said after the ceasefire in June Taliban activities on the outskirts of Kabul had increased.
“This shows some members of the Taliban after entering Kabul City are still here to carry out militant activities,” she believed.
Her colleague from Kabul Farhad Sakhi: “If the government wants to repeat the ceasefire, it should be careful so that the Taliban may not use the opportunity in their interest.”
Senate Deputy Chairman Mohammad Alam  Eyedyar also welcomed the possible truce during coming Eid and said: “All dimensions should be carefully considered before declaring the ceasefire because after the previous ceasefire, casualties among security forces have surged.”
Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said ceasefire was a positive move and should be welcomed.
