MAZAR-I-SHARIF - US envoy to Afghanistan John R. Bass on Tuesday met with former governor Atta Mohammad Noor and discussed with him Daesh or so called Islamic State (IS) activities in the northern region of the country and the upcoming elections.
Noor, the former governor of Balkh province and current secretary of Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan, in a statement on his official Facebook page said he and the US ambassador talked about the recent unrest and presence of Daesh in the north as well as transparency in elections.
Noor stressed transparent elections which he called the only way to steer the country out of the ongoing problems.
However, nothing was mentioned from the US ambassador side in the meeting.
The US envoy meets Noor three days after political parties and movements in a meeting called the election process as full of fraud and offered their own plan for reforms.
However, the political parties’ statements drew harsh reaction form President Ashraf Ghani.
Few days earlier, Noor in Mazar-i-Sharif told reporters that he personally would run for presidency or would support another candidate who should have the support of US in the next presidential elections. (Pajhwok)
