Ghani Reacts at the Demands, Warnings of Political Figures Regarding Elections

KABUL - Speaking during a press conference in Kabul, President Ghani said a group cannot take decision regarding the fate of the elections, emphasizing that only the people of Afghanistan have the right to decide in this regard.
President Ghani made the remarks in response to a question regarding the demands and warnings of the political figures which they issued following a joint meeting in Kabul on Saturday.
In the meantime, President Ghani said the elections will be organized as per the directives of the constitution of the country and no meeting of tribal elders (Loya Jirga) would be convened regarding the presidential elections.
The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Jamiat-e-Islami Salahuddin Rabbani, leader of Junbish MilliBatur Dostum, leader of Wahdat Islami Mohammad Mohaqiq, and the leader of Mahaz Milli Syed Hamid Gilani participated in the meeting on Saturday along with Zerar Ahmad Muqbil who had participated on behalf of the former President Hamid Karzai and member of the Front for Security and Stability of Afghanistan Mohammad Younus Qanooni.
The participants of the meeting called on the government and the independent election commissions to invalidate the process for the registration of voters for the upcoming elections, bring changes in the elections system of the country, use the biometric system for the registration of the voters, and give more share to the political parties in the elections.
The leaders of the political parties and movements said the government must return with a positive feedback regarding their demands, warning that they would block the elections if case the government and election commission rejected their demands. (KP)
