Abdullah Says No Problem with Dostum’s Return

BRUSSELS - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah says he has no problem if first vice president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum returns to the country.
Dostum quietly left Kabul for Turkey last year in May after he was accused of rape and torture by a political rival Ahmad Ischi. Dostum has since been living in exile in Turkey.
A few months back Gen. Dostum attempted to return to the country but his aircraft was not permitted to enter Afghanistan.
Dr. Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a NATO heads of state summit in Brussels, the capital of Belgium that at a time when peace talks were being pushed with the Taliban such personalities should not be abroad. “Personally, I am not against his return to the country,” the CEO said of Dostum.
About protests against the arrest of Commander Nizamuddin Qaisari, one of Dostum’s commanders, Abdullah said the government valued people’s demands, but these requests should be lawful and should not create problems.(Pajhwok)
