KABUL - Some Meshrano Jirga or Senate members on Sunday opposed shifting the Afghanistan film archive to the Presidential Palace, saying culturists were not happy with the move.
Shah Hussain Murtazavi, spokesman for the president, told reporters here that the Afghan movie archive was shifted to the Presidential Palace for better conservation and security on July 3.
But senator Mohammad Rahim Hussianyar from southern Ghazni province told today’s session that a number of culturists, artists and writers had visited upper house members, calling for the decision to be reviewed.
He said the film archive should be moved back to its old building which had been reconstructed.
Another senator Shahzada Mustafa Zahir said moving the archive to the Presidential Palace had created a lot concerns.
He said the archives remained safe during the long domestic conflict but this time it might face problems.
A number of other senators expressed similar views about the issue.
Mohammad Alam Izedyar, first deputy chairman, told said the Afghan movie archive was not moved back to its old place, it might spark protests.
He said:“Moving the Afghan movie archive to the presidential palace means there is no safe place in Afghanistan. I urge the government to reconsider the issue.”
He said if the Afghan movie archive building had been given to the British Embassy then the government should provide details in this regard. (Pajhwok)
