Government Strongly Believe on IEC Independence: CEO

KABUL - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah has stressed over the independence of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and said the government never interfered in the affairs of the election body.
The government he said, however, hoped that by conducting free and fair elections the spirit of democratic rule may strengthen among the people.
Being a responsible leader of the Unity Government the CEO said he completely believed over the independence of the IEC and would never interfere in the IEC affairs.
“You have a very tough and critical work to do; the job you perform should an example for those coming after you. We strongly believe on your abilities,” the CEO said while referring to the IEC members.
Abdullah expressed these views during a gathering on Women Participation in Wolesi Jirgaand District Councils Election.
 Abdullah termed the participation of women in elections vital and regretted the low participation of women in District Councils election.
He added the participation and monitoring of people from the election process was necessary for the bright future of Afghanistan and upcoming generations.
Women Affairs Minister Dilbar Nazari called women participation in polls one of the principles of elections. “Women like men have the right to participate and work in all levels of election process and monitor it,” she said.
IEC Head Abdul Badai Sayyad said: “The IEC administration is committed not to bow in front of any group ranger from powerful individuals, armed groups, government officials and others and ready to render any sacrifice in this regard.”
Referring to the election law the IEC head demanded reforms into the law in the near future which resulted in some realistic problems to the IEC.
He made it clear individual who could earn the vote of the people will be able to get through to the Wolesi Jirga.
Interior Minister Wais Baramk said that procedures of the IEC were under way across the country and registration of voters and other procedures had been completed successfully with the support of security forces and the people. (Pajhwok)
