BEIJING - China has welcomed Afghanistan’s new peace strategy with the Taliban and said peace was the only suitable option to end current conflict in Afghanistan, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Tuesday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai has traveled to China and held meetings with Chines Foreign Secretary Kong Xuanyou, the statement said.
During the meeting Karzai thanked the Chinese government for organizing trilateral meetings between Afghanistan Pakistan and China for counter-terrorism and pushing new energy in the peace efforts.
The two sides also discussed the June 9th and 10th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting and the sideline meeting between the presidents of both countries.
The Afghan deputy foreign minister asked his counterpart to help accelerate development projects China was conducting in the country.
The two sides discussed cooperation between the two countries sin different fields and assured the implementation of commitments made under the 3- nation meetings.
The Chinese deputy foreign minister hailed the Kabul Process Conference and added peace talks were the only positive way which could ensure peace in Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
