More ID Card Distribution Centres to be Set up in Kabul

KABUL - Five more electronic National Identity Cards (e-NICs) distribution centres would be set up over the next six months in Kabul, an official said on Sunday.
Two weeks back, President Ashraf Ghani obtained his e-NIC, marking the launch of the process, but his CEO Abdullah Abdullah and few others figures opposed the move.
Abdullah and others argued the launch of the process needed more consultations. The first e-NIC distribution centre opened in the Kart-i-Chahar area of Kabul.
RoohullahAhmadzai, spokesman for the Population Registration Department, told Pajhwok Afghan today workers of the office were granted leave to register as voters for Wolesi Jirga and district council polls.
Resident of Kabul will start receiving forms for e-NIC from Monday. The card distribution exercise has four phases: Collecting personal and family identity information, identification, registration, printing and distribution.
Ahmadzai said five more centres would be established in other parts of the capital over the next six months. Later on, similar sites will be set up in Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar, Kandahar and other provinces.

He did not specify the number of centres to be set up across the country, but said the process of distributing e-NICs would continue for five years. During the time, all citizens would be provided ID cards. (Pajhwok)
