Hazaras Call off Protest after Talks with Gen. Bajwa

PESHAWAR - The minority Hazara community in southwestern Balochistan province on Wednesday called off its hunger strike against targeted killings of its members.
At least 30 members of the Shiite community have been shot dead in Quetta in recent months. However, none of the assailants has been detained yet, despite strong protests.
However, the protest was called off after a fruitful meeting between Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and leaders of the Hazara community.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army’s media wing, said a delegation of notables of the community met Gen. Bajwa and Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
Officials briefed the army chief and the interior minister on the security situation in Quetta and steps taken by the provincial government after the recent wave of targeted killings.
Before the breakthrough, the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) sent a letter to Gen Bajwa, asking him to play his role in stopping the targeted killings of Shia Hazara community’s members in Balochistan. (Pajhwok)
