9 Kidnapped Passengers  Freed, 21 Still in Captivity

TIRINKOT - At least nine passengers abducted by Taliban, have been released while 21 others are still in captivity in central Uruzgan province, locals said on Thursday.
Two days back, about 30 people wearing Afghan National Army (ANA) uniforms were snatched by militants on the Uruzgan-Kandahar highway.
Deputy police chief Abdul Qavee Omari told Pajhwok Afghan News the release was made possible with the help of local elders on Wednesday.
He alleged the passengers had been abducted by a local Taliban commander named MaulviEzatullah in the limits of Kandahar province.
The released individuals were civilians the police officer said adding efforts underway to free the others as well.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed around 16 police personnel and other security men; including the governor’s spokesman Dost Mohammad Nayab had been captured.
But Nayab told Pajhwok he was safe and on his job. (Pajhwok)
