FARAH CITY - At least two people were injured after a protest seeking justice for a slain boy turned violent in western Farah province on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people took to the streets against what they claimed police gunned down a 20 year old boy on the outskirts of Farahrod district on Wednesday morning.
The protestors said police firstly pulled the class 12th student at the Grani high school out of a vehicle and later shot him dead.
DadullahQani, a provincial council member, told Pajhwok Afghan News the student had committed no crime but he was killed after a verbal clash with policemen.
He said hundreds of people staged a protest against the murder in front of the governor’s office.
The protestors were chanting “we want justice and “we do not want weak leadership in the province”.
The protestors also pelted stones at the police side and shattered mirrors of police vehicles.
In response, the police resorted to firing in the air, injuring at least two protestors.
Abdul JabarShaiq, the civil hospital director, confirmed receiving two injured protestors and said their condition was stable.
Amanullah, a protestor, said the provincial council office did not respond to the protest turning violent.
Nasir Mehri, the governor spokesman, said the protestors did not communicate with the authorities.
He further said a policeman has been arrested in connection with the student’s killing. (Pajhwok)
