KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said the United States new strategy for Afghanistan is beneficial for stability of the region.
“Opportunities should be effectively availed,” the president was quoted as saying in a statement from the Presidential Palace during a meeting with Germany’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Markus Potzel.
Potzel called on President Ghani on Monday morning at the Presidential Palace and both sides conferred on key regional issues, the statement said.
The issues discussed included ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan and effectiveness of the new US strategy for South Asia and Afghanistan.
President Ghani welcomed Potzel and thanked his country for its assistance with Afghanistan in various fields over the past many years.
Ghani stressed: “The new US strategy is very beneficial for the stability of the region. The post-US strategy opportunities should be effectively utilized.”
For his part, Potzel also called the new US strategy as useful and announced his backing to the policy.
He said his country wanted long-lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and Germany supported intra-Afghan peace negotiations.
He assured of his country’s continued assistance in various spheres to Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
