Dr. Abdullah Set to Meet US Vice-President Pence

WASHINGTON - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Abdullah Abdullah is set to meet US Vice President Mike Pence at the White House on Friday.
During the meeting in the historic Roosevelt Room of White House, the two leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of bilateral security and regional issues.
Since the Trump administration’s takeover, this is the highest-level visit by an Afghan leader to the White House.
Abdullah has met top officials of the Trump administration over the last few days, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and National Security Advisor HR McMaster.
Mattis and Abdullah reaffirmed their continued strong support for the bilateral partnership, the Pentagon said.
“They discussed measures to implement the president's South Asia strategy and efforts to advance mutual security and counterterrorism cooperation, as well as the importance of continuing crucial reforms,” Pentagon spokesperson Dana W White said.
US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green met Abdullah to discuss civilian assistance programmes in Afghanistan, and the ongoing implementation of the South Asia strategy.
“Green underscored his support for the Government of Afghanistan's efforts to address corruption, and enhance the accountability of Afghan institutions,” said USAID spokesperson Clayton M. McCleskey. (Pajhwok)
