President Trump Seeks Additional Funds for Afghan Mission

KABUL - President Donald Trump has asked Congress to amend the 2018 budget to include $5.9 billion in additional funding for his missions in Afghanistan and North Korea.
Trump has sought $1.2 billion for his administration's South Asia strategy, including funding for US intervention in Afghanistan, according to the Independent Journal Review.
He has approved deploying 3,500 more soldiers as part of the administration's new strategy. The additional funding would aid special operations forces in Afghanistan.
“This request supports additional effort to detect, defeat and defend against any North Korean use of ballistic missiles against the United States, its deployed forces, allies, or partners,” he said in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Monday.
About $700,000 of the requested funds will be spent on repairing the USS John S. McCain and USS Fitzgerald. Both naval vessels collided with merchant ships earlier in 2017. (Pajhwok)
