President Orders Election of National Olympic Committee Chief

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has ordered the National Olympic Committee to dissolve all parallel bodies and elect its head, his office said on Friday.
In a statement from the Presidential Palace, Ghani ordered the constitution of a team to conduct the election under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee.
The committee has been led by two presidents for the past two years, each claiming to be the body's head. But the acting chairman, Mahmood Hanif who is recognised by the government, has declared him as the committee's elected chief.
Ghani issued the order to resolve the issue of parallel bodies within the Olympic Committee and fill the administrative vacuum, the statement added.
Article 1 of the order requires the National Olympic Committee to elects its leader as soon as possible in line with constitutions of the International and Asian Olympic Committees.
Article of the order says: "To conduct a transparent election under the International Olympic Committee's Charter and supervision, a delegation should be appointed."
Parallel institutions within the committee stand dissolved with the issuance of the order and any election held without international oversight are not credible, says Article 3. (Pajhwok)
