President Ghani Sacks IEC Secretary-General

KABUL – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday dismissed Imam Mohammad Warimach, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) secretary.
Waraimcah's dismissal came during a meeting of IEC members and international partners supporting the Afghan election process at the Presidential Place in Kabul.
“With a crucial responsibility on your shoulders, you are expected to conduct the election process in a fair and transparent manner," the president was quoted as saying.
In a statement from his office, Ghani said Afghanistan needed unity and team work. The president chaired the meeting that was attended by the commission members this morning.
Ghani stressed no one had the right to interfere in the election process, promising his government would take every step to meet financial and security requirements for the democratic exercise.
But a reliable source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the president criticised the performance of the IEC secretary-general and fired him from his position.
“The president pointed to the weak performance of the IEC secretariat and told Warimach verbally that he can no longer work in this position ,” the source revealed.
Warimach dismissal came at a time when three weeks earlier he on his social media account wrote about being under presser from some circles.
“Threat to the IEC, personal insult, propaganda campaign and fraud by some circles has been started, but my message is preservation of national interest, social justice, professionalism and making justice to individual,” he wrote. (Pajhwok)
