MPs Accuse Presidential Palace of Corruption

KABUL - Some MPs in the Wolesi Jirga – Lower House of Parliament – on Saturday accused President Ashraf Ghani and “the people around him” of being deeply involved in corruption, saying that the Presidential Palace has changed into a “center of corruption”.
In a cabinet meeting last week, Ghani  said that nominated ministers would be removed from the list if they embraced a money deal with MPs to get votes of confidence.
The Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said Ghani’s remarks were “directed to lawmakers” and he insulted parliament by saying such things.
“The Wolesi Jirga is a legislative pillar and has a legal place. Such remarks by Mr President against the house of parliament is disrespectful to the representatives of Afghans,” Ibrahimi said.
“Ghani is carrying out a political game,” MP Ali Akbar Qasimi said.
“Mr. President is the center of corruption. The entire government will be reformed if reforms are brought to the Presidential Palace,” MP Abdul Rahman Rahmani said.
The Presidential Palace has refused to comment on the remarks against the president. (Tolonews)
