KABUL - An agreement on control and maintenance of the radar system in Afghanistan has been signed between a German company and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Sunday.
The agreement would help increase revenue generated from the country’s airspace by 23 percent, said that the statement.
The agreement was signed between German THALES and ACC in the presence of President Ashraf Ghani.
The implementation of the new system would cost 24 million Euros, maintenance cost reaching 8,484 million Euros per year.
With implementation of the project, more services would be provided to the air traffic and planes would be able to fly up to 27,000 feet.
In 2016, Afghanistan earned $40 million in revenue from its airspace, while experts believe introduction of the new system would increase the revenue up to $57 million. (Pajhwok)
