‘Green Zone’ to Change Social Life in Kabul: Ghani

KABUL - Ilham Omar Hotaki, the authority head, made the announcement at a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani to discuss the green zone plan at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday evening.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the meeting was attended by officials of the Capital Zone Development Authority and representatives of countries implementing the project.
It said Hotaki presented security plan for the Kabul Green Zone housing the diplomatic missions of several countries. He said the plan had been devised to improve security of citizens and foreign missions.
He said short and long term measures had been considered in the security plan under which five security zones would be established in Qala Musa, Bibi Mehro, Qala Khatir and Qala Khayat.
He said 10km of new roads would be constructed and new homes were considered for people whose houses would be destroyed for implementation of the plan.
He said the Kabul Green Zone plan would bring about a positive change in the living style of Kabul residents and would play a role in improving their economic and social standard.
President Ghani said the government would also contribute to the execution of the green zone plan, which he called as effective in bringing about change in social living and improving security of the foreign diplomatic missions.
The plan is being executed after insurgents used a truck in carrying out a massive suicide bombing that killed and wounded many people and damaged buildings in Kabul about two months ago. (Pajhwok)
