Abdullah Urges MPs to Endorse New Cabinet Picks

KABUL - CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday urged the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament to grant the trust vote to the newly-introduced ministers-designate.Abdullah said this while introducing two of the newly chosen Cabinet nominees ---Mohammad Hameed Tahmasi and Gul Agha Sherzai---to their ministries’ workers.
Sherzai was named as acting minister of borders and tribal affairs and Tahmasi as transport and civil aviation by the government about eight days back.
Earlier, the president had introduced Tariq Shah Bahrami as minister-designate for the Ministry of Defense, Nargis Nehan for Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and Faizullah Zaki for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and Abdul Lateef Roshan for the Ministry of Higher Education.
In a statement, the CEO office gratitude to former transport minister Mohammadullah Batash for his efforts and services during his tenure.
Abdullah asked the Wolesi Jirga to give the vote of trust to the Cabinet nominees introduced by the government keeping in view their experience, knowledge and sincerity.
He also asked the newly-appointed acting ministers to take steps towards facilitating movement and transportation on highways and win people’s hearts in this regard.
On the other hand, Abdullah also introduced Sherzai as acting minister to the border ministry’s employees.
Another statement from the CEO office quoted Abdullah as telling a ceremony at the Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs (MoBTA) that the ministry had a great role in strengthening national unity, ensuring peace and resolving disputes.
He dubbed Sherzai’s introduction as acting border and tribal affairs minister a prudent decision, saying effective personalities in government system could play vital role in the current conditions compared to other times.
He said Sherzai, as a veteran former jihadi figure and politician enjoyed huge support among the nation.
Sherzai also spoke on the occasion, saying he had practical plans for national unity, preserving national interest, bringing about peace, protecting the country’s borders and resolving tribal disputes. (Pajhwok)
