President Opens First Citizen-Arg Debate in Kabul

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday opened the maiden session of a debate titled “Citizen and Arg (Presidential Palace)” aimed at ensuring good governance and citizenship.
The Citizen and Arg debate attended by university professors, university students, Kabul residents and a number of government officials was held for the first time at the Presidential Palace.
Addressing the audience, the presidents said unity could not be established until there was a common thinking. “Open debates develop good thoughts and good citizenship and governance,” he added.
The president said people have to support inclusion of qualified and professional individuals in the government for a better performance. “If people follow pragmatism, they would find strongmen in the government,” the president said.
The Citizen and Arg debate was called an effective process for fundamental changes in governance and determination of citizens’ status and a responsible government.
A senior advisor to the president in the United Nations, Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, said the debate would turn the government from a traditional style of power to a citizen-oriented and accountable institute. (Pajhwok)
