Direct Peace Talks with Taliban after Eid: RPC

KABUL - Jirga-I-Waqeye Sulh (Real Peace Council), a newly established institute, during its maiden meeting on Monday announced the organization will initiate direct peace talks with the Taliban in one of the country’s southern provinces after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Azizullah Fazli, head of the institute, told the first meeting of the organization that the process of peace negotiations with the Taliban would start officially under a five-member delegation which would pave the ground for real ways of peace establishment.
“We do not want peace from John Kerry, former US secretary of state, we want to achieve peace through our Afghan youth,” he said.
He added that the peace talks with the Taliban would not take place in India's Kolkata or Turkey, but it would take place in one of Afghanistan’s provinces such as Paktia, Helmand, Uruzgan or Farah.
Referring to the government’s program for peace, he said, “Fifteen years passed since the peace process has been launched, but its fate was yet to be cleared, but the Real Peace Council members including Azizullah Fazli, Atiqullah Zazai, Dr. Khalil Safi, Eng. Rahmatullah Zaland and Hamidullah Amarkhel will start direct intra-Afghan peace talks with the Taliban within 10 days after the Eid-ul-Fitr,”
Fazli said no any members of the council had connections with any political parties and they were people who wanted peace for their country.
Peace is the need of every single Afghan because most of the victims of the ongoing war are youngsters; people are tired of the current situation and they no longer want the continuation of conflict, he concluded. (Pajhwok)
