Mosque Attack a Plot to Sow Sectarian Discord: MPs

KABUL - Some Wolesi Jirga members on Saturday condemned Thursday’s attack on Al-Zahara Mosque in Kabul City, saying the attack was aimed at stirring up religious differences.
Five worshippers were killed and 12 others wounded in Thursday’s night attack on the mosque west of Kabul. The attack involved two suicide bombers. Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Gen. Nazifa Zaki, a lower house member from Kabul told Saturday’s session that the Afghanistan’s enemies were out to create religious controversies in the country by carrying out such attacks.
However, she said adherents of Sunni and Shiite branches of Islam would never fall victim to such plots and they would not allow anyone to stir up religious differences like in some other countries.
Abdul Qadar Qolatwal, a lawmaker from Zabul province, held similar views, saying the enemy was trying to fuel religious differences in Afghanistan. “Now the Afghan people are wise and they will allow no one to create religious and ethnic tensions among them.”
Ghulam Hussain Naseri, a legislator from Maidan Wardak province, while stressing unity and solidarity among ethnic groups and Islamic sects, said: “Afghanistan enemies should know that they couldn’t separate Shiite and Sunni, we are always standing by each other and will never be separated.”
Some other lawmakers echoed similar views. Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, condemning the attack, said the Afghanistan enemies by carrying out the attack showed they had no faith in God or Islam. “The Afghans are united like a fist and the enemy couldn’t disperse them.”
He asked the government to take special measures by developing an appropriate strategy for the country’s situation because the security situation was fragile in some provinces.
He also asked the government leaders to bring to an end the culture of acting departmental heads and introduce ministers-designate to the house for a vote of confidence. (Pajhwok)
