KABUL - Top officials from Afghanistan and the US would hold high-level consultations within the framework of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA), the National Security Council (NSC) said on Friday.
National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar and his US counterpart Gen. Herbert McMaster agreed to initiate consultations, considering the deteriorating security situation in the country.
A statement from NSC said Atmar had apprised McMaster of the need for high-level talks and consultations during a telephone conversation. McMaster reaffirmed US support to the Afghan government and people, particularly to the security forces.
The phone call from the US NSA came after Kabul was rocked by a massive explosion that killed nearly 90 people and hundreds more wounded on Wednesday.
Atmar said high-level consultations were needed in the framework of the BSA. He claimed Wednesday’s attack was planned outside Afghanistan’s borders, calling it a sinister conspiracy against the Afghans.(Pajhwok)
