Tribal Elders being Consulted on Peace Drive: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani said his government wanted to advance the national reconciliation process in consultations with tribal elders and influential figures.
Speaking to tribal elders and officials from southern Zabul province, the president said peace was the nation’s utmost desire, according to a statement issued from the Presidential Palace.
The statement said tribal elder from Zabul Mullakhel supported the government’s programs and said the people of Zabul wanted peace to come through intra-Afghan dialogue.
Welcoming the peace agreement between the government and the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA), the elder said the people of Zabul were cooperative with the government and had always resisted anti-government forces.
Another elder from Zabul, Abdul Wali Wali, also said the people of Zabul strongly supported the government’s policies and plans and the government should give attention to the province’s development.
He said Zabul’s land was suitable for agriculture and the government should develop agriculture and fruit gardening in Zabul and exploit water of rivers in the province.
Wolesi Jirga member from Zabul Zahra Tokhi Zabuli said the people of Zabul supported to no terrorist group and would never allow a terror group to operate in the province.
For his part, President Ghani said his government wanted to advance the peace process in consultation with tribal elders and influential figures.
The president also said the process of exporting fruits from Afghanistan to India would start soon.
The president assured the people of Zabul of special attention to Qalat, the provincial capital, and drastic reforms in the provincial departments.
He urged the elders of Zabul to share their proposals with the government regarding the peace process. (Pajhwok)
